2016 Founder's Award Recipient Bill Mulrenin
with Mike O'Brien, Lodge Adviser and Patrick Machado, 2015-2016 Lodge Chief
This Eagle Scout from Troop 23, Brooklyn was inducted into the Order in 1970 and sealed his membership in the Brotherhood in 1971. For over 40 years, he has been a constant advocate for scouting and the Order of the Arrow. As an adult our honoree has served his home unit as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chairman, Troop Committee Member, and Chapter Adviser. For his service to scouting he has been awarded the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award and the Vigil Honor.
In recent years he has supported the OA, camping, and scouting in two unique but connected ways. As a member of the Ten Mile River Scout Museum Board, he has worked to create a unique program to educate the scouts of today about the TMR of years past and to preserve the history of Ten Mile River for future generations. Each year the attendance at TMR Museum programs has grown because of the efforts of Scouters like our honoree tonight.
For the past 20 years, he has advised the then Shu-Shu-Gah and now Kintecoying Lodge Trade-O-Ree. This event has not only served as a social event for lodge members and non-members alike, but also a fundraising opportunity for our lodge. The funds generated by this event have been used by the Order of the Arrow to fund service projects, run lodge programs, and contribute to the financial commitments of the lodge to Council sponsored projects. The Trade-O-Ree committee has also served as a leadership opportunity for some of our newest Arrowman, who were looking to take on a leadership position but perhaps were unsure of making a large time commitment.
His nomination read "Over the years he has worked with many new Arrowmen and empowered them to give leadership to this important endeavor. Many former Trade-O-Ree chairmen have gone onto hold other leadership positions within the lodge. He is one of our most committed Arrowmen who has given of himself over the past 45 years for the betterment of our lodge and our order".
For his service to camping and the Order of the Arrow, and for demonstrating in his everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by our Founders, The Founder's Award is proudly presented to Bill Mulrenin.
